The cross in every minute — don’t miss a single minute, especially when something goes against your inclinations

Every cross is an opportunity to grow in disinterested love and thus enter more fully into the inner life of the Trinity. Those moments do not always last as long as they first appear they will. Sometimes they are over before we know it and we realize by our selfish resistance and avoidance we are left no better than before the trial–yet we suffered the trial, but fruitlessly, which is sad. What a wasted opportunity. We need to look at each and every cross as something that might escape and get away before we have tasted the nourishment it was there to provide. We need to develop a healthy anxiety about this and pounce on these chances to advance in sanctity and freedom and love. Don’t blink! You might miss it.
